Hey everyone,
I’ve run a fun experiment for the past 7 days.
Last week at work, we were sharing personal goals for the next 3 months with each other. Mine was to journal more. I like journalling and it always helps me get more clarity.
Someone in the team wanted to hold me accountable, so they asked “ok, when are you going to journal?”
I didn’t really know where I had time for it to be honest. At least not to do it regularly.
They said “how about 10 minutes before work?”
I thought to myself “eh this is probably going to be another one of things that I try to do and then it falls away” but I thought let’s give it a go, and made an event in my calendar.
I initially set myself the goal of writing for 10 minutes, but I was inspired by Nathan Barry who said that writing 1000 words a day changed the game for him, so I went for a word count goal. I chose 300 words because I wanted to be realistic.
I started this page in Notion.
As you can see, I’ve written something every day this week.
The experiment has been a huge success.
My goal now has evolved to writing at least 300 words a day on anything that I want. It could be journalling, it could be this newsletter, it could be a youtube video.
This goal might change, I’m not very far into this experiment yet, but my suspicion is that I’ll end up writing more of the things I want to write.
Anyway, it might be fun to try it out yourself.
The Odyssey Plan prompts from my favourite non-fiction book Designing Your Life might be a fun place to start.
What would my life look like over the next 5 years I follow the same path I’m on now?
What would my life look like over the next 5 years if I couldn’t do what I’m doing now, and had to choose the next thing that I would do instead?
What would my life look like over the next 5 years if money and other people’s expectations weren’t an issue and I could do whatever I wanted?
Have an epic week!
